Our Technology

3Shape TRIOS 3D Intra Oral Digital Scanning

This innovative technology uses lasers and optical scanning to digitally capture the surface and contours of the tooth and gums.

3D dental scans allow 100% accurate patient records for the dental practitioner. They can also be used to send impressions to perform crown or bridge corrections, for a more comfortable and efficient way of diagnosing the condition of a patient’s teeth.

See your teeth in seconds

Patients prefer digital impressions to conventional trays which are awkward and uncomfortable. The entire process takes less than five minutes.

The Trios system captures the impression so precisely that it virtually eliminates the need for impression retakes and ensures that the restorations will be created for a perfect fit.

If you’re looking to get invisible braces or just avoid the outdated tooth impressions which have been known to cause gagging, our Trios s-Shape 3D scanner offers innovative solutions to each of our patients.

If you are suffering from crowded teeth, or are interested in smile design or teeth straightening, we can now show you exactly what your teeth will look like within seconds of scanning. Get results while you’re still in the dentist’s chair. All scans are received in the laboratory within minutes of scan being done electronically for faster turnarounds. One of the most impressive features of the Trios digital dental impression technology is that it produces real time images that show on the computer screen. Both dentist and patient can simultaneously visualize the treatment area in 360 degrees, allowing them to communicate more effectively.

Dental Monitoring

With the DentalMonitoring app and ScanBox pro, you can now send in photos of your teeth and communicate with our practice securely from the comfort of your home — or anywhere in the world.

How it works

STEP 1

At an in-person appointment at our Thorndon Practice, Dr Gill will provide you with directions on how to use the ScanBox pro and how to get started using the DM app.

STEP 2

Next, you’ll take photos of your smile from anywhere using the ScanBoxpro (at the frequency Dr Gill recommends) and send them in through the app.

STEP 3

Dr Gill will receive your photos to review your treatment and ensure it’s on track without the need for unnecessary trips to the office. We will send communication and guidance on your treatment via the app.

STEP 4

Over time, you can monitor the progress of your treatment with our photo time lapse technology that shows you how your teeth are moving towards your goal.

KaVo Intra-oral DIAGNOcam

EARLY CARIES DETECTION SYSTEM

Kavo Intra-oral Diagnocam light waves replace X-rays otherwise needed for caries detection, giving you exceptional image quality and detail.

Benefits include:

  • Early diagnosis of occlusal, approximal, smooth surface, and secondary caries and cracks.
  • Highly precise image quality, even without dental precleaning.
  • Conclusive images and videos are visible immediately for an increased acceptance of treatment plans.
  • Free from x-rays: for all patients, all teeth and all procedures. Great for kids and pregnant women.
  • Recording assistant shows the right position for the best diagnosis images in the shortest possible time.

A digital video camera shows the scene live on the screen of your choice. The tooth becomes a light conductor, making the tooth structures visible. Any areas with caries or cracks that the light comes across on its way to the tooth surface are clearly demarcated and visibly darker.

Laser dentistry

We use an LED Diode laser for many procedures, including hemostasis, implant exposures, proper exposure of a tooth for crown preparation, and even removal of soft tissue lesions and cosmetic gum contouring.

Digital x-rays

Thorndon Dental has been 100% digital since 2014. The positives about digital radiography means almost 90% less radiation to you.

Intra oral cameras

Now you can see what we see everyday! With intraoral cameras utilized by us we have the ability to show you the problems that your teeth present. Many times a tooth will not hurt or have any signs that it has a problem, but visually, there are severe issues. By taking a picture of that tooth and bringing you into the decision about your own teeth, you can now take control of the care that you receive! Intra oral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a record of treatments.
