Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is an easy and affordable way to enhance your smile!

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. Is it time you brightened yours up a bit? Our cosmetic teeth whitening services include effective home-based whitening treatments which can be applied in the comfort of your home.

Teeth can become discoloured for many reasons such as coffee, tea, red wine, cigarette smoke, and even certain antibiotics. Whitening procedures can safely give you a whiter, brighter, natural looking smile in as little as an hour.

Teeth whitening options

We have a range of whitening options available for you, including chairside whitening which can be carried out during surgery in under an hour.

Alternatively, our home whitening kit comes with custom made trays for accuracy and ease of application. This treatment includes whitening gels and achieves excellent results in as little as 7-14 days! You can enjoy in-office results from the comfort of your own home. Unlike store bought products, our kit contains professional-grade whitening agents to deeply penetrate your enamel to resolve stains.

After an initial consultation, we provide you with custom-fit trays and the whitening agent to use daily for the next 2 weeks. You will see your smile gradually whiten to enjoy the lasting results you want.

Our team at Thorndon Dental are happy to discuss the home-based teeth whitening treatments we have available, so you are confident in applying them yourself.

FAQ

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is an extremely safe and effective cosmetic treatment.

During in-office teeth whitening, your dentist will take special precautions to protect your gums from the bleaching agent and ensure your maximum comfort throughout the procedure.

If you opt for the home teeth whitening kit, we will walk you through exactly how to use your custom-fit trays to obtain the brighter smile that you desire.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects of professional teeth whitening include tooth sensitivity and mild irritation of the gums . Tooth sensitivity is more frequent during early stages of the bleaching treatment, while gum and tissue irritation is typically caused by a poorly fitting whitening tray.

Both side effects are usually temporary and should disappear in 1 to 3 day after your treatment is complete. Desensitising toothpaste could be used during the 7-14 days you’re whitening your teeth.

How long will a teeth whitening treatment last?

While both whitening systems can result in excellent outcomes, no whitening treatment is permanent. Dark foods and drinks that can contribute to staining, such as black coffee, tea, nicotine and coloured foods can quicken the discoloration of teeth.

A good oral hygiene routine along with regular visits to the dental hygienist would go a long way at retaining the whitening results for longer.

If you take these steps to preserve your teeth whitening results, you can expect your brighter smile to last 1 to 3 years.
